• You like oldtimer cars? Then you should not miss the Oldtimertreffen/Oldtimer Meetup on top of Züblin Parkhaus on October 26.
• The pub Schlampazius is an institution in Stuttgart and definitely worth a visit anyway. On October 26 you can combine grabbing a bite with shopping as Schlampazius organizes its first Kneipenflohmarkt/Pub Flea Market!
• The African Open Mic is back in Stuttgart and celebrates Black, African and Afrodiasporan voices from in and around Stuttgart on October 26 at Weltcafé.
• Stuttgart Expat Meetups organizes a fun Jazz and Soul night at Maritim Hotel on October 26.
• On October 26 you can shop the night away at Long Shopping Night in downtown Stuttgart. The city will also be beautifully illuminated for the occasion.
• If you feel like you need a break, visit REBOOT Guided Meditation on Sunday! Stef, the guide, is really good and I know what I am speaking of as I joined one of her classes a while ago and loved it.
• I have heard so many good things about this event that I really wanna go soon with my little girl: Babyconcert at Marmorsaal im Weißenburgpark is back this Sunday! One concert starts at 11 am, another one at 1 pm and they last for 45 minutes.
• The weather is supposed to be lovely this weekend so how about going on a bike tour?! You could join a tour organized by Stuttgart Expat Meetups to Danube River on Sunday, October 27!
• I know that some of you like historic trams so here comes a little gem: This weekend, on October 26 and 27 in Stuttgart you can enjoy one of the city’s most famous trams from the 60s, the GT 4.
• The 8th International >tangoloft< Milonga Weekend is going on in Stuttgart on October 26 and 27.
• This weekend the Firefighters in Degerloch organize their annual festival Degerlocher Kirbe. Live music and local specialities await you and the shops will be open on Sunday, too.

• When Korean music is your thing you should visit the Korean Night on October 19 at Kala Club.
• Forró de Domingo meets Arte Nacional Capoeira Stuttgart on October 19 at Aloft Stuttgart.
• A Freestyle Rap Battle will be going on at Schräglage on October 19.
• Leinfelden-Echterdingen is home of the famous Filderkrautfest/Filder cabbage. And this cabbage will be celebrated at Filderkrautfest on October 19 and 20 all over town. The fun festival starts even on October 18 with a long shopping night and shops will also be open on Sunday! Next to many food stands live music and program highlights for young and old await you.
• Here’s something for foodies: The fair Speiß &Trank/Food&Drinks will be held at Alte Kelter Fellbach on October 19 and 20. Here you can try exclusive wine, craft beer and handmade treats.

Stuttgartnacht is one of my favorite events in Stuttgart every year. With one ticket (18 Euro) you’ll get admission to over sixty venues like theatres, live clubs, cinemas, churches and more – and all await you with a special program. Of course many of the shows are offered in German but there are still a lot of venues you can visit at Stuttgartnacht 2019 if you don’t speak the language.

Here come my favorite places, shows and exhibitions at Stuttgartnacht 2019 for non-German-speakers:

• Enjoy an African Dance Night at the City Hall/Rathaus! As the city of Stuttgart celebrates the 40. anniversary of it’s partnership with the city of Cairo you can enjoy a lot of African attractions like belly dance shows, Henna hand painting, a photo exhibition about Cairo and more. And as every year you can ride the historical lift Paternoster and visit the bell tower which is usually closed for the public.
• The Stuttgart Ballet Company will perform four entertaining pieces at 7:30 pm at Schauspielhaus.
• Don’t miss the Burlesque Show at Frau Blum. Performances start every full hour from 7 to 11 pm. Make sure to arrive early as it will be crowded!
• A very special location for an event night like Stuttgartnacht 2019 is definitely Graveyard Heslach. Here you can listen to funeral Jazz from New Orleans and Gospels.
• At Chivasso Conditorei a creative mix of different music genres awaits you: from Polkabeats to Folk, from Rock to Metal and from Jazz to House.
• More music: Tango and Percussion sounds will be performed at Matthäuskirche.
• Relax at a meditative sound journey at Cielo, starting at 7 pm. Afterwards Tango, Butoh, Zentangle and more await you.
• A fun Ghostwalk in English will take place at 10 pm. You will lean more about spooky monks, a headless horseman and other shady figures… Meeting point it the corner of the city hall/Rathaus where Hirschstraße leads into Marktplatz.
• How about exploring Stuttgart-Ost on an e-bike? You can do so with Stuttgart by Bike, starting at 7 pm at Hackstraße 2. If you need to rent an e-bike please contact the organizers via email: info@stuttgart-by-bike.com
• Kraftpaule is famous for it’s great selection of craft beer. At Stuttgartnacht 2019 the location will be the home of live Rock’n Roll music and an hourly Burlesque show.
• What does the night sky above Stuttgart look like? Find it out at Sternwarte Stuttgart!

But Stuttgartnacht 2019 doesn’t end at midnight. On the contrary, you can dance the night away at the following locations:

• OK, I have to take back what I just said right away as some highlight events are taking place outside, like the fun annual festival around the pumpkin, the Kürbisausstellung (pumpkin festival) in Ludwigsburg! It is on throughout October, until November 4. I’ve recently visited the festival with the little one in tow and had a great time! Read more about our experience in my post Celebrating the pumpkin.
• And of course there is Cannstatter Wasen taking place until October 13. Your annual chance to dance on tables and drink beer out of huge Bierkrüge!
• You have too many clothes? But you wouldn’t mind some new(ish) pieces? Then visit the Kleidertauschparty/Clothes Exchange Party on October 3 at Raupe Immersatt! Bring your used stuff and take home some other second hand pieces.
• Dance Salsa on October 5 at Stadtpalais.
• Laugh the night away at English Comedy Night at Climax Institutes on October 5.
• Struggling with German? Then this is your month! First of all you can visit the play The awful German language by Mark Twain on October 7, performed by NEAT at Merlin. Secondly, my fun  German Conversations groups are back! More about this later in the post.
• On October 10 the International Women’s Club of Stuttgart organizes a Bump & Baby Playgroup (0-3 years) starting at 10 am at EKIZ in Stuttgart-West. New members are very welcome.
• Enjoy pulled pork and spare ribs, burgers and hot dogs or donuts, freak shakes, cupcakes, cookie dough and more at the American Food Festival between October 11 and 13 at the U-Bahn station Hofen.
• Another Kleidertauschparty/Clothes Exchange Party takes place at VHS Stuttgart on October 11.
• Meet local companies and creative minds at the fair Made in Stuggi on October 12 and 13. Next to culinary highlights, fashion, jewelry, design and furniture will await you at Carl Benz Arena.
• Get to know Möhringen better this October in Stuttgart, at the street festival Möhringer Herbst on October 13. Local shops will be open and await you with some nice specials.
• You want to improve your spoken German and meet new people at the same time? Then you should join my German Conversation Groups! We meet once a week, starting on October 17, for ten times in a row in cafés in downtown Stuttgart. My philosophy to conversation groups is that an atmosphere where everybody feels comfortable is crucial. Thus I keep the groups super small (max 6 people). I offer different groups that range from level B1 to C2. For the first time I also offer two groups during the day, the other groups take place in the evening. So if you want to train your spoken German – or finally loose your fear to speak German – contact me! 🙂

• On October 24 and 31 you can enjoy what is probably the silliest staging of Romeo and Juliet ever: Romeo and Juliet (with Clowns) performed by NEAT. And yes, there will be clowns. A lot of them. Actually every character will be played by a clown. That definitely sounds like a night at the theater  you don’t want to miss!
• Are you in need of some fabric? Then come to Stoffmarkt/Fabric Market at Karlsplatz on October 25. More than 140 sellers will be present.
• On October 26 you can shop the night away at Long Shopping Night in downtown Stuttgart. The city will also be beautifully illuminated for the occasion.
• Markt der Völker/Market of Nations is a huge market for international handicraft. It takes place from October 31 to November 3 at Phoenixhalle.

• Get in the mood for Halloween and celebrate the pumpkin at the fun annual festival Kürbisausstellung  in Ludwigsburg on October 27 and 28.
• The Wagenhallen, one of Stuttgart’s main off-locations, are back on track and celebrated this with a reopening party this weekend,  October 27 until 28 in Stuttgart!
• If you follow my blog for a while you know that I’m a huge fan of cloth exchange parties where you can swap some of your used cloths for others. There is one going on at volkshochschule Stuttgart on October 27!
• There will be a Zombi Walk on October 27 in Stuttgart, starting at 5:30 pm at Königstrasse 1.
• Celebrate Greek style on October 27 at the club Marquardts. At Greek Night modern Greek music an the one or other god(des) will await you 😀
• You can visit the last Open Session of BMX Union Supercross this year on Saturday.
• Learn how to Swing dance on October 28 at Happy Feet.
• If you feel like dancing this weekend you might want to visit the Funky Hip Hop Workshop by Sofia Toufa from Los Angeles at Rytmiko on October 28.
• Some more pre-Halloween fun comes from NEAT, the New English American Theater in Stuttgart: On October 28 you can enjoy the reading of a spooky Halloween story at Theater am Olgaeck. Costumes welcome 🙂

• I’m a huge fan of cloths exchange parties. There is one on October 20 at Österreichischer Platz. You can bring up to 7 used cloths (which are still in good condition) and take new pieces home with you.
• Something for all fans of Game of Thrones: Find out how the world of Westeros was created on October 20 at the cinema Metropol.

• Something for all vegans, vegetarians and everybody who’s interested in a healthy lifestyle: don’t miss the vegan food fair Xond on October 20 and 21 at Phönixhalle in Stuttgart!
• The brand new food fair Speiß und Trank awaits you at Alte Kelter Fellbach on October 20 and 21.
• Celebrate Kraut (cabbage) at Filderkrautfest in Leinfelden-Echterdingen on October 20 and 21.
• How about some body art? Then the tatoo fair at Carl Benz Arena this weekend is your thing!

Stuttgartnacht is one of my favorite events in Stuttgart every year. Of course many of the shows are offered in German but there are still a lot of venues you can visit at Stuttgartnacht 2018 if you don’t speak the language.

Here come my favorite places, shows and exhibitions at Stuttgartnacht 2018 for non-German-speakers:

• Landtag (the parliament of Baden-Württemberg) at Schlossplatz awaits you with the Steely Dan Stuttgart Allstars Band. At 7 and at 9:15 pm you can enjoy a mix of Rock, Jazz, Funk and Pop in the lobby.
• The motto of the night at Rathaus (town hall) is “Rathaus meets Bollywood!” Bollywood Blockbusters will be shown at the foyer, you can get a picture of yourself wearing a Sari or Turban or let your hands turn into beautiful artworks thanks to Henna painting. Of course there will be live music too and you can also ride the historic Paternoster, the old-fashioned elevator that never stops.
• Meet the ghosts of Stuttgart with the fun Ghostwalk tour in English. It starts at 10 pm next to the town hall, corner Schul-/Hirschstrasse
• At Frau Blum, Stuttgart’s first and only erotic boutique, you visit a Burlesque show with Raunchy Rita, Fanny Di Favola and Loreen LaBaffe. The first show starts at 7 pm and they are on every hour. Make sure to get there early as it will get crowded!
• If you want to dive into the Indian culture, you should visit Theater am Faden and listen to traditional Hindustani music at 7:15 and 11:15 pm and the Indian flute at 9:15 pm.
• Inspired by Stephen Hawking’s theories the performances Black Holes have no Hair at St. Maria teach the audience all about the hairdos of black holes – and more. Sounds crazy but great to me! 🙂 The performances are on every hour, starting at 7 pm.
• One of my favorite off-location in Stuttgart is Waggons am Nordbahnhof. The creative heads from there have put together another fun program for Stuttgartnacht 2018. Many artists open their ateliers/wagons for us and we can indulge in robot projections, live tatooing, blacklight games, open stage performances and more. Defenitely worth a visit!
• If bellydance is your thing you shouldn’t miss Essential Bellydance in Bad Cannstatt. You will be able to try bellydance tribal style, vintage style, modern bellydance and more!
• Listen to a mix of American jazz, French manouche, tango, swing, chanchons and Hungarian music at the Hungarian Culture Institute.
• Take a look into space at Sternwarte Stuttgart.
• Relax while having the best view of the town at Fernsehturm Stuttgart (find out more about our famous tv tower here!)
• Some clubs and venues offer a special late night program (called Spätschicht).

• Laugh the night away at English Comedy Night on October 13 at Climax when the American stand-up comedian Paul Salamone tells stories of this life as an Expat living in Germany.
• Get to know Classical Indian Dance at Theater am Faden on October 13.
• Meet creative people from Stuttgart and shop for local products at the fair Made in Stuggi on October 14 at Phoenixhalle.
• Möhringen celebrates itself at the festival Möhringer Herbst on October 14. Food stands and live music await you and you have the chance to meet shop owners of the quarter.
• Celebrate the friendship between France and Germany and visit one or more of the fun events at French Weeks on October 13 and 14 in Stuttgart.
• Have a great time at the Pumpkin Festival in Ludwigsburg on October 13 and 14.
• Last chance to dance on tables in a beer tent at Cannstatter Wasen on October 13 and 14 in Stuttgart. There will be fun fireworks on Sunday when the festival ends.
• Find a new hobby and check out the English-speaking courses presented by volkshochschule Stuttgart, for example watercolour painting on October 13 and 14.
