• Every Thursday between 1:15 pm and 1:45 pm you can pimp your lunch break with a virtual Lunchkonzert, performed by the musicians of Staatsorchester Stuttgart.
• If you follow my blog for a while, you know that I am a huge fan of Escape/Exit Games! D.a.i. Tübingen offers an online one in English on April 8.
• Calling all book lovers! You like reading books and discussing them afterwards? Then you can join the online Book Discussion on April 9, organized by d.a.i Tübingen. This month’s topic:James Baldwin, Go Tell it on the Mountain.
• Join English-speaking people from all over the world who meet once a month for good and casual conversation at Stammtisch Transatlantik, organized by DAZ on April 12.
• On April 12, the theatre group NEAT will present the virtual play “Dolores“ by Edward Allan Baker on youtube.
• You like boardgames? Than you might want to join the virtual boardgame night of d.a.i on April 15!
• A very special modern ballet project can be watched online on April 16. Eric Gauthier, creative head of Gauthier Dance at Theaterhaus Stuttgart, and altogether 64 artists (!) have come up with “The Dying Swan Project”. At 16 locations in Stuttgart the team has shot dance videos that will take your breath away. The virtual premier takes place on April 16 on the youtube channel of Theaterhaus Stuttgart and on Eric Gautier’s Intagram account.
• On April 22 it is Earth Day. You can celebrate this special day by joining this online event, a transatlantic dialogue between a top ranger of the Yosemite National Park, established in 1890, and a senior staff member of the Black Forest National Park, established in 2014.

Reboot Meditation – guided meditation

Stef from Reboot Meditation will offer free online courses in times of Corona. Use your headphones if possible and prepare something to write. As always with Reboot Meditation, you will start and end with breathing and writing. The meditation will take 20 minutes. Plan 30 min in case you would like to share at the end. • If you had too much beer on the Craft Beer Festival you can visit the hangover breakfast at Wagenhallen on April 14.

You can try if for yourself between April 30 and May 5.
• Tanz in den Mai, or dancing into May is an age old tradition celebrated in Germany every year on April 30. You can join in at the big Tanz in den Mai Party at Phoenixhalle, at the Swing Party at Eliszis Jahrmarkt  or at the Walpurgisnacht-Party at LKA/Longhorn for example .

Courses for English-speakers at volkshochschule stuttgart

As you guys know I have formed a non-paid cooperation with volkshochschule stuttgart for this semester. From my previous post about their new international program you might remember that I am a huge fan of their new courses in English. This semester I want to point out several courses every month. We have a saying in German that goes like this “April, April, der macht was er will” – which can be translated to “April is doing whatever it wants to do” (OK, the translation sounds lame… it rhymes in German… :-)). And this saying is very, very true. April is the month where you can experience all the four seasons in one day: You wake up to a blue sky, have breakfast while it’s raining, go to work through a snowstorm, eat lunch in the sun and get soaked in rain on your way back home.

But why is the weather this crazy in April? Well, I did some research and this is what I found out: Apparently this is because the south of Europe starts heating up in spring already and produces warm air while it is still cold in the north. The warm and dry air meets the cold and humid air above central Europe and thus Germany. The air masses try to balance out their differences and this results in unpredictable weather changes.

So when you’re spending April in Stuttgart, make sure you bring shorts and T-shirts AND gloves and winter boots 🙂
