The beginning of a new year is the time where most of us form some resolutions. Next to all time favorites like eating less chocolate, giving up smoking or becoming more active, living a more sustainable and responsible life style is amongst the list of many people this year. Here comes a tip that will support you doing so: I have found a new shop that supports zero waste in Stuttgart!

[Unpaid advertisement based on personal experience]

You might have heard of Schüttgut in Stuttgart-West already, the first store in town that sells products without packaging. It has been around since 2016. When I heard about this store the first time I liked the concept instantly. If you’re located in or close to West, go there! But as I don’t live downtown, commuting there with packages where I could put in the stuff I wanted to buy just didn’t work out for me.

But now another store with a similar concept has opened it’s doors last year and it is much more convenient to reach for everybody living in the south of Stuttgart: Tante M in Sillenbuch!

The concept of these “unverpackt Läden” (literal translation: not packed stores) is easy and genius: They sell many loose products, like they did in the old days at corner shops or mom-and-pop stores. Customers bring their own packaging where they put the products in, for example food boxes or bags. Like this you don’t only safe packaging and thus waste, you can also buy the exact amount of a product that you need and you will thus safe money and food waste.

At Tante M you find tubes with various food items like lentils, seeds, nuts, rice… but also consumer goods like dishwashing liquid or shampoo. You just open the lid and fill whatever amount you need in your box or bag. It’s as easy as that.

Next to the zero wast goods you can find other organic products at Tante M, for example bee wraps, soaps, brushes… It is actually so much that I can’t even recall it all 😀 The lovely owner, Maarit Schneider-Penna, selects all her suppliers with great care and tries to buy as local and organic as possible.

And next to a shop Tante M is also a cafe! You can sit down in one of the windows and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and have a bite.

So if you want to try to go zero waste in Stuttgart from this year onwards, visit Tante M in Sillenbuch!

Shopping for your baby can be overwhelming. There are so many brands, advertisements, reviews, it just gets out of hand. And if you’re like me who likes to actually shop in shops instead of online, it can be more difficult to find the right thing at the right place and time. Now that you have a child, no time should be spent on the road, not knowing where to go, so here are some shops I’ve learned to be quite helpful when offline shopping for a child.

Good baby finds in Stuttgart: Hema

This shop is originally from the Netherlands and it only landed in Stuttgart two years ago. But I have grown to love it. Not only do they have cute and affordable clothes for babies, but they also have blankets, bottles, toys and for your toddlers, everything activity. If you like DIY, they also have some great tools to get you excited. And the party supplies! I’ve always been a bit hesitant when buying party supplies online because they are either too much in quantity or just not good enough in terms of quality. There are themes that come and go, so you may have to settle with specific themes whether you like them or not, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find something you like. Definitely a great place to go for good baby finds in Stuttgart.

Hema Stuttgart: Königstraße 43a, 70173 Stuttgart

Good baby finds in Stuttgart: Søstrene Grene

Photo credit: rachelsanghee.com

One of my favorite shops in general but their baby and toddler related products are so cute and mostly sustainable. The Danish brand is a joy to visit, and like Hema, it goes through different themes, which means you won’t find the same things at all times. I love their little toys, kitchenware both for me and the children, and DIY tools for projects like stickers, string, painting supplies and more. I do not believe they sell clothes in the Stuttgart store, just for your information.

Søstrene Grene Stuttgart: Sophienstraße 21, 70178 Stuttgart

Good baby finds in Stuttgart: TK Maxx

A mix match for everything. If you need anything, you’ll most likely find it in TK Maxx. I don’t like going here during the weekend because you may have to wait more than a couple of minutes to reach the cashier, but for daily things you need for the little one, such as clothes, shoes, toys, presents, books, even furniture, this is the place to be. I have bought numerous toys and presents for fellow moms and moms-to be, and also bought a lot of books, shoes and toys for my little one as well. Because it’s more of an outlet system, you do have to take time to find the right one for you. I would also recommend it for summery things, like tubes, swimsuits, towels for babies etc.

TK Maxi Stuttgart: Königstraße 18, 70173 Stuttgart

Good baby finds in Stuttgart: Uniqlo

I trust quality when it comes to Uniqlo, and they have some of the highest quality clothes for both babies and toddlers. Their little jumpsuits, or “bodies” as they call in Germany, are super for summer because they’re light and breathable, and their rain cots and windbreakers are amazing too. Not to mention their t-shirt, which come in numerous designs and fun colors as well.

Uniqlo Stuttgart: Königstraße 33, 70173 Stuttgart

Good baby finds in Stuttgart: dm

Not just for diapers, trust me. dm is great for baby food, baby snacks (especially when you travel to different countries), baby everything, really. I personally love their hats that come in so many different shapes and sizes and also those little portable and travel-friendly kiddie snacks like raisins and pretzels. Not to mention the diaper changing area and some even have breastfeeding areas too.

dm online store finder

Good baby finds in Stuttgart: Zara Kids

As my toddler gets a bit older, I try to buy clothes that would last a bit longer. And for them to last longer, they need to also look good, right? I love the overall color scheme of Zara Kids, sometimes I even wish they made the same designs for adults. Their shoes are also cute and comfortable, most of the sneakers have those rubbery, cushiony soles in them too. The only problem I have with some girls’ clothes is the width of the arms and legs. Too narrow, compared to the boys’ so I even sometimes buy boys clothes for my little girl.

Zara Stuttgart: Königstraße 12 and Königstraße 50-52, 70173 Stuttgart

Good baby finds in Stuttgart: Jacadi Paris

This brand is on the more expensive side, yes, but they have very nice clothes, shoes and accessories. They also do sales quite often, so I usually for for the sales to buy staples, like thick jackets, nice skirts and dresses. It’s also a great place for buying gifts, something special for a special friend or family member.

Jacadi Paris Stuttgart: Eberhardstraße 31, 70173 Stuttgart

Good baby finds in Stuttgart: Petit Bateau

Another French brand, originally famous for their striped shirts. They have some very cute “bodies” and baby clothes, and also a lot for adults. I think it would be adorable to wear something similar and be all matchy matchy for a day.

Petit Bateau Stuttgart: Schulstraße 7, 70173 Stuttgart

In this post I share where I was buying the baby furniture and baby clothes in Stuttgart or online that we needed.

Buying baby furniture and baby clothes in Stuttgart – Online Platforms

First and foremost I can recommend ebay Kleinanzeigen to you. There you find loads of used baby stuff for very reasonable prices. Not only clothes but also furniture and much more. And you support sustainability as especially clothes for toddlers can be used only for a few weeks and are as good as new afterwards and way too good to be thrown away. Unfortunately, the app is only in German.

German terms for baby items

Here come some German terms for baby clothes or other baby items you might want to look for at ebay Kleinanzeigen:

Strampler -> romper suit

Body -> jumpsuit

Stoffwindeln -> fabric diapers

Kapuzenbadetuch -> hoodie towel

Wickeltisch -> diaper changing table

Babybett -> baby crib

Hochstuhl -> high chair

Babybadewanne -> baby bath tub

Badewannenthermometer -> bath tub thermometer

Waschlappen -> wash cloth

Kratzfäustlinge -> anti-scratch mittens

Umstandshose -> maternity pants

Umstands-T-shirt -> maternity T-shirt

Umstandskleid -> maternity dress

Still-BH -> nursing bra

Another great place to look for baby clothes and other stuff online is the facebook group Stuttgart Maternity/Kid Shop and Swap (Germany) which is even in English.

As I’ve said we’ve also bought some new stuff:

We wanted the Brittax Go Big baby carriage as it offers the biggest bag underneath the crib, a very big crib and got very good test results Germany’s biggest product tests by Stiftung Warentest when it comes to safety and the lack of harmful substances. Moreover we were told it is the only carriage that cannot fall over due to a special mechanism.

For the car seat we decided to go for the Besafe IZI Go Modular [amazon affiliate link] for infants which also got very good ratings for safety and lack of harmful substances at Stiftung Warentest.

We chose the high chair Tripp Trapp from Stokke [amazon affiliate link] as I have friends who have tested several high chairs and all of them recommended this one to us. Again, it is said to be the only one that cannot fall over. It is very well designed and it grows with your child. You can buy the Newborn Set [amazon affiliate link] for your infant so that even the youngest one can hang out next to you while you’re having dinner at the table, and the PlayTray [amazon affiliate link] for your toddler. And even older kids can sit on this high chair at the dinner table or at their own desk. Such a flexible and high quality high chair looked like a sustainable solution for us that will last for quite some time.

For the babyphone we decided to go with the Philips Avent Video-Babyphone SCD630/26 [amazon affiliate link] because it got good rates in tests and has an eco mode.

And last but not least we chose the heater from reer [amazon affiliate link] for the diaper changing station because it comes with a leg and you don’t have to screw it to the wall.

Buying baby furniture and baby clothes in Stuttgart – Shops in and around Stuttgart

We didn’t only shop online but also went to some stores in and around Stuttgart. Here is a list of the ones we’ve visited and that I can recommend:

Babyone was the first shop – or should I say warehouse – we went to, simply because it is super close to where we live. They have a huge selection of prams, strollers and car seats in stock and you can try every single one out. But you also find all other things you might need there, too: Clothes, furniture, nursing stuff, toys… you name it. Moreover, I found their guidance fantastic – very professional and very honest. There are two Babyones in and around Stuttgart, one in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, the other one in Leinfelden. My tipp: When you sign up for their membership you get discounts from time to time.

Babywalz is another huge shop/warehouse for buying baby furniture and baby clothes in Stuttgart. It has very similar stuff in stock as Babyone but it is located very conveniently in downtown Stuttgart, at Königstraße 43b. My tipp: get their newsletter for the one or other discount.

A much smaller but super cute shop in Stuttgart-West is motchis. When you enter the store you feel instantly that the owner selects the items she wants to sell very carefully. Here you find stuff you might not see in the bigger shops – but I have to say, it comes with a price. So motchis is maybe the place where you buy selected items that will become your kid’s favorites.

Did you know that the drug store dm also sells baby stuff? And the quality is actually very good and the prices are reasonable. Moreover, dm offers a selection of organic clothes and baby items you might be interested in. I am a huge fan of their Alana baby body made out of organic cotton and silk.

If you are on a tight budget I can highly recommend visiting the social warehouse Zorella in Stuttgart-Ost. I know this warehouse because I donate clothes there on a regular basis and I am a huge fan of them and their concept. They have actually two stores, Zora for adult clothes and Zorella for baby clothes, toys and more. Here you find second hand stuff for very fair prices.

Hi guys! One should think Stuttgart is over satisfied with shopping malls (I am thinking of Gerber and Milaneo center). However, there is a very special place I want to point out to you: Fluxus shopping mall at Stadtmitte.

Fluxus shopping mall is different. You won’t find the big, international brands here, but that’s part of the idea. Fluxus consists of 16 shops and Cafés owned by local retailers, designers, artists and, let’s face it, awesome people. <img decoding="async" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" style="border-style: …

Fluxus shopping mall is different. You won’t find the big, international brands here, but that’s part of the idea. Fluxus consists of 16 shops and Cafés owned by local retailers, designers, artists and, let’s face it, awesome people. So if you’re looking for something special or a vintage product (yep, there are second hand shops, too) or you need to find an extraordinary present, Fluxus is the place to visit.

Fluxus shopping mall is located in the old acade Calwerpassage. Expecially the glass ceiling is very special.

There was already a crowd of people waiting in front of the entrance when I walked past the shopping center in the morning.

Of course …

There was already a crowd of people waiting in front of the entrance when I walked past the shopping center in the morning.

Of course I was quite curious so I had to visit the Milaneo during my lunch break. There were hundreds of people but it didn’t look that crowded at first sight cause the area is huge.

But it was way to crowded to have a look into the shops so I just strolled through Milaneo shopping center to get a first impression.

Well, quite fancy. There are more than 200 shops at Milaneo shopping center.

And right, there’s Primark…

I’m not a big fan of Primark after all I read on the news within the last weeks. But according to the crowd lining up in front of the shop, waiting to be allowed inside, I’m afraid not many people care that much…

That brings me to a few people, that weren’t very impressed with the opening of another shopping center in Stuttgart…

Yep, there were protests against some shops at Milaneo shopping center as well.

It was quite an interesting lunch break, I can tell you that much guys. I have to come back in a few days, when things have calmed down a bit, and have a closer look at the shops.

Has anybody been shopping at Milaneo today? What are your favorite shops and which center do you like better, Milaneo or Gerber? Let me know, I’m curious!

Hi guys! Many people name the Market Hall (Markthalle) when you ask them about their most favorite places in Stuttgart. And it is indeed a special place: The art nouveau building with it’s lofty architecture offers a variety of international products and an atmosphere, that reminds you of an oriental bazar. And in January, the Market Hall had turned 100 years old! Reason enough for Moritz and me to pay it a birthday visit this weekend.

38 stalls offer fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, spices and much, much more on 3500 square meters. The smell and the colors make a visit very enjoyable.

Mouthwatering, right?

From the gallery on the first floor you’ve got a nice view down to the bustling market…

… and you find some shops and restaurants:

If you’re not looking for fresh products but for some souvenirs, check out the stall from Hochland Kaffee. Their roasting facility is located in Stuttgart-Degerloch and the tradition of this company goes back to 1930. I like them not only because of the good quality of their coffee, but also because they offer some very fun, Stuttgart related products:

Like these boxes with coffee named Stuttgarter Bohnenviertel”(“Stuttgart beans quarter”, which relates to a part of the city with this exact name in the west of Stuttgart), chocolate with bezels, noodles in the shape of bezels and much more. Or Wibele (traditional mini cookies from Stuttgart) and “wine to go”:

One of my favorites is this set of four chocolates:

It brings together the best of Stuttgart: The Fernsehturm (television tower), Wibele, Brezel and the Swabian accent (Schogglad, meaning chocolate). Fun!

Yep, the Markthalle is always worth a visit – and I always have to take at least a tiny piece of deliciousness home with me…
