Here comes my personal small selection of events that are going on this August in Stuttgart that are somewhat safe to visit in times of Corona:

• For two years in a row the art installation Stuttgart am Meer (Stuttgart by the sea) at Stadtpalais Stuttgart has brought breach vibes to downtown Stuttgart. This year the festival has changed it’s name to Kopf über Wasser (head above water) and its goal is to help all of us to get through the pandemic as good and happy as we can. You can for example book a time slot for your personal visit to “the dues of Stuttgart” at Stadtpalais and escape the heat of the city – or you have a little BBQ! The art installation has opened its gates on August 1 and will take place at Stadtpalais until September 13.
• Stuttgarter Kulturwasen is still going. The pop-up drive-in cinema shows movies in their original versions like Le Mans 66 on August 5, The big Lebowski on August 6,  Bohemian Rhapsody on August 11, or Little Women on August 18.
• And another cultural institution in Stuttgart has come up with creative ideas how to bring some summer vacation vibes to the city for all of us who won’t be able to travel this year: Landesmuseum Stuttgart in the city center has turned its inner courtyard in a summer paradise – with sunbeds, parasols and the opportunity to order fun summer drinks. On the weekends various artists will perform for you while respecting all the corona rules at the same time. Sommer im Schloss (summer at the castle) will take place until August 16. 
• The flea market at Karlsplatz will come back weekly on August 8. There will be only half of the stands and you will have to obey to the distancing rules and wear a mask but if you love shopping for second hand finds, this is your event!
• The beloved wine festival Stuttgarter Weindorf will take place virtually this year between August 26 and September 6. Wine tastings, fun interviews and more await us. However the streaming will be in German so you should be able to understand a bit of the language in order to enjoy the livestream.
• If you are looking for some fun, open air activities with y0ur children, check out these locations:
  • Wilhelma Stuttgart (our zoo 🙂
  • Höhenpark Killesberg with it’s petting zoo, the playgrounds and the mini train
  • public pools in Stuttgart (mind that you have to register and pre-book your ticket online)
  • Eins und Alles in Welzheim where you can rediscover your senses in a creative and fun way
  • Märchengarten (Fairy Tales Garden) in Ludwigsburg where you can meet your favorite fairy tale characters
  • and of course all the beautiful nature around Stuttgart is always a great location for an excursion and or BBQ! Have you for example visited Naturpark Schönbuch or Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald yet?!

• The festival Stuttgart am Meer/Stuttgart at the sea continues throughout August in Stuttgart in front of Stadtpalais. A pool with cold water waits your feet on a hot summer day, the urban jungle that is installed outside the museum invites you to relax underneath the green leaves and between August 15 and 25 a mobile surf wave waits to be conquered.
• Every Thursday throughout August you can visit the Feierabendmarkt/After Work Market in Untertürkheim. Live music, street food as well as local wines and beer await you.
• Stuttgart’s most posh festival is Sommerfest/Summer Festival in front of the Opera House. Here you can enjoy a glass of wine and actually high quality food while promenading around Ecksee between August 1 and 4. To learn more about this festival, check out my review about my visit in 2013.
• The festival Umsonst&Draußen/Free and outside is the biggest not-for-profi festival in Stuttgart and a true institution. From August 2 to 4 you can listen to live music, meet interesting people and relax on the grass. Everybody is welcome and the only real rule is that you don’t bring your own booze or food.
• Explore Stuttgart by e-bike on August 3.
• The lovely little restaurant Flora & Fauna organizes a Silent Open Air Disco on August 3.
• On August 3 and 10  you can dance salsa at Mercedes-Benz-Museum at Salza unter den Sternen/Salsa underneath the stars.
• Weltcafe at Charlottenplatz organizes the intercultural festival BeneFeet on August 3. Music will await you in the backyard of the building as well as inside the café as well as stands and of course food and drinks.
• Enjoy the sunset from Stuttgart’s version of the Taj Mahal, the Grabkapelle, on August 4 with live music and food and drinks at Auf den Stufen/On the steps.
• The New American English Theater (NEAT) will perform Love’s been good to me by Rod McKuen on August 5 at Merlin.
• On August 10 you can bring some colours in your life, at Holi Festival of Colours Stuttgart. It takes place at Neckarpark.
• A huge Kinderfest/Kids Festival will be organized by Flughafen Stuttgart on August 10 and 11. A zipline, a dog show, a bike parcours and lot’s of games await your little ones.
• On August 16 Wagenhallen celebrate the Hello Stuttgart Festival with live music of different genres: Reggae, HipHop, Soul, Caribbean,…
• The famous opera Carmen will be performed open air at Freilichtbühne Killesberg on August 16.
• If you like professional fireworks Flammende Sterne/Flaming Stars in Ostfildern is for you! Between August 16 and 18 pyrotechnic teams from all over the world will show off their skills.
• Dance salsa at Wagenhallen on August 24 at Noche de Salsa.
• Between August 28 and September 8 Stuttgart will celebrate local wines at Stuttgarter Weindorf. More than 30 hosts and winemakers will be present.
• Stuttgarts most famous local brewery, Stuttgarter Hofbräu, organizes a Brewery Festival on August 31: You can try different beer types, create your own beer label in a foot booth and listen to live music.
• Shop for second hand stuff at Wagenhallen Sommerflohmarkt/Wagenhallen Summer Flea Market on August 31.
• This year, the famous Woodstock festival celebrates it’s 50s anniversary. And at Wagenhallen, the organize a huge Woodstock Anniversary Party on August 31.

• The Summerfestival of Stadtpalais Stuttgart am Meer is still going on this weekend on August 18 and 19. There will be a skater contest on Saturday and live music on Sunday evening.
• A great lightshow can be enjoyed at Lichterzauber at Blühendes Barock in Ludwigsburg on August 18.
• The LGBT meets at the Biergarten at Höhenpark Killesberg on August 18 for the CSD Cool Down.
• Shop for fun nic nac and explore Botnang at Hofflohmärkte Botnang on August 18.
• Baseball: Stuttgart Reds vs. Saarlouis Hornets on August 18.
