It’s just mozzarella, right? The white cheese ball that doesn’t taste like much, right? I discovered how wrong I was when I visited Mozzarella Bar in Stuttgart for the first time…

The story of Mozzarella Bar in Stuttgart has begun as a crazy idea of four friends in a – you might guess it – mozzarella bar! 😀 1.5 years later they have opened their own one in Stuttgart, next to Paulinenbrücke and Gerber shopping center. Mozzarellabar in Stuttgart is a small bar (not restaurant! The owners don’t get tired in pointing this out 🙂 )with only one room. So make sure to book a table in advance (we didn’t and had to switch tables during our stay)!

The menu offers a lot of different types of mozzarella. I didn’t even know that such a variety exists, I only knew the one from the fridge in the supermarket. But the mozzarella you get at Mozzarellabar in Stuttgart is a whole different league. My friends and I shared three mozzarella dishes: Mozzarella di Bufala Classica (the original mozzarella), Burrata Affumicata (smoked mozzarella) and Stracciatella di Burrata (pulled mozzarella with cream). We also orderd some mushrooms and bruscetta as sides and shared them as well.

What can I say, everything was delicious! And all types of mozzarella tasted differently! It’s hard to name a favorite because all off them were amazing. But in the end the original mozzarella impressed me the most – just because I could campare it what I thought original mozzarella tastes like – now I know better. I could seriously live on nothing but Mozzarella di Bufala Classica from now on.

The Mozzarella Bar in Stuttgart is definitely a great restau… sorry, bar! 🙂 Why bar you might ask. Well, because you’re not expected to order food. You’re also welcome to have a drink and not rushed away from your table the minute you swallow your last bite of cheese. The only downside of the bar is that it gets quite loud when all the tables are booked. But I heard that they plan to have a patio outside next year! Sounds great to me! 🙂

Located in the old saddlery of the brewing company Dinkelacker, Sattlerei is a mix of hip bar and cozy apartment. When you enter, you will be greeted by a huge bar.

Turn left to start a tour through the apartment… ups, bar 😉 The first room is quite big but still very cozy. I love the shabby decor!

Keep going, leave the first room and check out the second, smaller room to your left and the fantastic regular’s table in front of you! There is a hole in the wall and you can order drinks at the bar from there!

Definitely a special place. If the style looks somehow familiar, you might have visited Weißes Ross or Paul&George already. The new bar Sattlerei belongs to the same owner, Janusch Munkwitz. This talented guy knows how to create a special location.

When it comes to drinks, check out their Dinkelacker infused highballs! And as the location belongs to the brewery Dinkelacker, you will find a lot of regular Dinkelacker beer on the menu as well.

Hi guys! Stuttgart has a new, fun location! However, maybe only for three more weeks as the Weißes Roß (White Horse) is a pop-up bar in the Leonhardsviertel, intended to exist for only six weeks.

The Leonhardsviertel is actually the red light district of Stuttgart. However, more and more sophisticated bars are settling there as well. The owner of the new pop-up bar actually runs the beloved Paul & George too, which is located just around the corner. The pop-up bar Weißes Roß used to be a hardcore pub and a place I would have never set foot in.

You can still smell decades of pub history when you enter it. The odor of old smoke, the dim light and the heavy furniture still remind you of the bar’s former days. But the modern music, the hip girl behind the bar and the young guests make you feel welcome right away.

The pop-up bar is actually very cosy! No direct light but old, dusty lamps everywhere. I like! 🙂

My friends and I sat down at a table next to the big window, where we could watch people stopping and looking inside, wondering what the old pub looks like these days.

As I don’t drink alcohol until Eastern I went for the home-made lemonade that night. And what can I say, it was very good! One of my friends even switched to lemonade too, after she had tried a sip of my drink.

We stayed at Weißes Roß for hours and chatted the night away. Definitely a very cozy and relaxing place. If you want to check it out, hurry! As mentioned earlier, it is a pop-up bar and might be gone again in three weeks!

The Galao is a lovely little pub which organises cultural events quiet frequently. Yesterday, the Singer-Songwriter Synje Norland was present, supported by a wonderful cello player. I fell in love with their music! Beautiful, relaxing tunes, strong voice, awesome artists. Everybody who has no plans for tonight: They will participate at the “Silent Friday” in the “Kulturwerk”!! Worth going!!

My friend Katja and I arrived around 18:30 – which we thought is early – and had to face the fact that the pub was already full inside. But as it was a very warm day in Stuttgart yesterday, it was still very mild in the evening. And as the Galao has set up some tables outside, next to the windows, we decided to have our first dinner in fresh air in 2013. And believe me, it was not that cold! OK, around 8 pm we asked for some blankets, which we got straight away. And like this we stood our ground until 10 pm, when the concert was finished.

We were both very hungry and thus eager to see what Galao has to offer. The selection is actually not too big, but everything sounded very nice and we both went for “Thali”, which consists of different curries and comes with chapati bread and basmati rice. Very yummy! I’ll definitely have that again the next time!

The Galao is really a special place, not mainstream, nice people and an interesting cultural programme. Maybe I’ve found a new favourite location in Stuttgart… 🙂

Munich is only a 2.5 hour drive away from Stuttgart and makes thus a great destination for a weekend-getaway! And where do you go at the end of September or the beginning of October when in Munich?? Right! 😉

The Oktoberfest is the best known German festival, I think. Some people also call it the “Beer Festival”. And that really nails it! 🙂 There are huge pavillions called beer tents (Bierzelte) where they play live musik and serve beer in huge glasses called Maß. It takes place each year for 16 days in September and Oktober in Munich on the Theresienwiese.

On Saturday, I drove …

The Oktoberfest is the best known German festival, I think. Some people also call it the “Beer Festival”. And that really nails it! 🙂 There are huge pavillions called beer tents (Bierzelte) where they play live musik and serve beer in huge glasses called Maß. It takes place each year for 16 days in September and Oktober in Munich on the Theresienwiese.

On Saturday, I drove from Stuttgart to Munich, which takes about 2.5 hours. I arrived in the afternoon and Cathy and I started to get dressed for an exciting evening at the Oktoberfest. We both wore Dirndl, a traditional dress from the south of Germany. Unfortunately, when we stepped outside, it was pouring with rain. But hey, Oktoberfest is only once a year so we decided to go nevertheless – maybe it will get better soon, we thought. Well, how wrong we were. When we arrived at the Theresienwiese, it was not only pouring, the wind was blowing very hard and it was freezing cold.

We walked over the Oktoberfest, had a Burger with Schweinshaxe and got really soaked within one hour – so we decided to be wimps and call it a day.

If you wonder now, why on earth we did not go into a beer tent, where it should be warm and dry and amazing – well, if you have no reservation, you need to show up around 7 am on the weekend to get the chance to go inside at all. And as we arrived at the festival around 4 pm that was no option.

Back home, we blow-dried our hair, Dirndl and cold feet and had several cups of hot tea. As we don’t see each other that often, we were just as happy, spending the early evening at Cathy’s place and chatting. Around 9 pm, we decided to go out for a drink. Cathy knows a very good cocktail bar called reizbar where they serve – direct quote from Cathy: “Munichs best cocktails”. That sounded good to me! 🙂

The reizbar turned out to be a very small bar with a very large cocktail menu. A lot of their drinks got awarded, too, so I was very excited. We started reading the first ten or so pages of the menu when the barceeper came to our table and asked whether we needed help. Well, we did and he recommended us two cocktails: “Mint-Peach-Daquiry” for Cathy and “Lustgewinn” for me.

They tasted amazing so we had to get another round. By seeing how well he did with his first recommendation, our barceeper got a little lightheaded and promised we would love the next two cocktails even more, they contain flowers and cucumber. So he placed “Red Cucumber” infront of me and “Vorstadtveilchen” (which translates into “Suburb Viola”) in front of Cathy. Surprisingly, we liked those ones as well – even though I told Cathy at the begining of our evening how unpleasent I find vegetables in my drink…

It was still raining when we left the bar but just before we arrived at Cathy’s place, it stopped. Well, it was after 11 pm, which means, the Oktoberfest was closed now anyway. So we could fall into our beds without regret 😉

PS: In order to give you an idea, how nice it can be on the Oktoberfest when it’s not raining cats and dogs, here is a picture of the beer festival by sunshine…
