How fast can 5 weeks fly by? We are in Miami Beach now, where we have spent the last two nights of our tour through Florida and the Caribbean.
Unfortunately the weather was not that nice, but we’ve had enough sun for the last two weeks anyway. So we used the time to do some Art-Deco-house-hunting:
Beautiful. And all the lovely details:
Even the public parking garage is in Art-Deco-style :
And check out the huts at the beach, where the life savers are stationed:
Miami Beach is very colorful and open minded anyway. I love it!
We are staying in a wonderful hotel, just one street away from the famous Ocean Drive: Hotel La Flora in Collins Avenue:
When they found out that the day we were checking in was my birthday, they surprised us with an upgrade to a bigger room…
… and a bottle of champagne! So nice, I was very touched
And another great thing about the hotel: Between 5 and 6 pm all guests get free drinks at the bar! How cool is that?!
We had dinner in a very special restaurant: The old “11th Street Diner”
The dining car was originally built in 1948 in New Jersey and served for 44 years as a traditional diner in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. It was moved to South Beach Miami in the early 90s, was restored and opened it’s doors again in 1992. Truly a special place
And what do you order in an old school diner?
Right! (Veggi) burger and milkshake! Delicious I can highly recommend this place.
Well, and that’s about it. Our five week vacation finally came to an end.
We’ve travelled around Florida, seen alligators and manatees, cruised the Caribbean, soaked up lots of sun and some saltwater, swam with colorful fish, sting rays and good friends, watched the one and other beautiful sunset and found ourselves finally thrown back in time, in the era of Art Deco. What a great vacation!
Thanks for following us on our tour! We are on our way back to Stuttgart now and I can’t wait to see what’s going on in my beautiful hometown at the moment . See you soon!
