Ahoy guys! After two weeks of cruising the Caribbean we have finally debarked the beautiful Carnival Splendor – and have Internet reception again!
We did a “back to back” cruise which led us from Miami to the Eastern Caribbean in the first week, than back to Miami, only to set sail again towards the Western Caribbean. Both weeks were full of adventures and impressions and it is impossible to write about it in one blog post. So I decided to dedicate our cruise three articles. In this first post I would like to introduce you to the life on board our cruise ship, the Carnival Splendor.
Say “Hi Carnival Splendor”
A cruise ship wouldn’t be a cruise ship if there was no Lido pool, so here it comes:
Our favorite pool though was the one in the back of the ship (aft). It was adults only and thus much more relaxed.
Oh, and did I mention the water slide yet? (Nope, the slide is not located in the adult only area – I WISH IT WAS! )
On our first week, when we cruised the Eastern Caribbean, we met up with our friends Anne and Matt. If you follow my blog for a while, you will remember Anne (and her blog www.fannetasticfood.com) because I have met her several times for some hijinx in Europe the last years ( check out my former post A fun weekend in Switzerland) and and for her and Matts wonderful wedding two years ago (more about that here: A magical day at Rosemont Manor). It was great seeing them again and spending a whole week together! FUN!!
During the days, we had fun on our shore excursions (more about that in my next post) or on the boat. In the evening, our general program looked like that:
We met at the Lobby…
..where we had a drink…
…and listened to our favorite singer on board: Andy
Afterwards, we headed over to the “Black Pearl Restaurant”, where Rolie, our awesome waiter, was waiting for us already.
Some impressions from the restaurant:
You want to hear more about the food on board? Well, I don’t have a famous food blogger friend for nothing Check out Anne’s posts about eating on board the Carnival Splendor on http://www.fannetasticfood.com/.
Next to the restaurant, there was the Splendido buffet where we had breakfast…
… and sometimes dinner (when we didn’t feel like dressing up for the restaurant):
Everything was delicious. The only thing Moritz and I have to say, being vegetarians: The choice of vegetarian dinner options could be bigger. But don’t worry, we didn’t starve ;-P!
During the first week of our cruise it was New Years Eve and we had a blast with Anne and Matt. After dinner at the Black Pearl…
…we went to the “Grand Piano Bar” (where you can order songs from “The-voice” Russel and sing along) …
…before we met our fellow 2996 passengers at the Lido for the countdown:
Belated Happy New Year 2015 by the way
There is one more thing about life on the beautiful Carnival Splendor, I haven’t told you yet. Actually, because I wanted to save the best for last – and find out how many of you stay with me through this loooong article ;-P
Each night, when you come back from dinner, you find a “towel creation” in your state room. SO CUTE!!
At first, we only took pictures of them, but after a while… well, we couldn’t help it….
Sometimes, they even hang out at the pool:
Of course the Carnival Splendor has much more to offer: a gym, casino, dive-in cinema, minigolf, spa, theater, art gallery, fun shops and and and… The places and things I mentioned were our favorites and just a small, personal selection
Stay tuned for our shore excursions…
